Phone Dramas

Filed under: XXIV — Ken @ 9:53 am

For anyone trying to get in contact with me, my phone is playing funny buggers and only working 1/4 of the time. If you need to contact us, email is the best course of action (this is usually the case also as we have day jobs!): info@xxiv.com.au - You will receive a reply same day, often straight away.

Thanks!

p.s. Should have a new phone next week and be connected to the real world again!

Minor Site Updates

Filed under: XXIV — Ken @ 7:53 pm

It’s been a very busy year this year (and late last year) making sure all the wheels are greased and turning during the current economic crisis. Unfortunately the site has slipped under the radar on our to-do list and hasn’t been updated in ages. While I am still working on a completely new website design, system and layout I have done some minor updates to the site as it is now reflecting changes that have passed.

Brand Changes

Most notably, is the lack of Banshee Bikes and Industry Nine. It was a sad, hard and unwanted decision we had to make in letting these brands go. But as you are all well aware, the economy is taking a pound; the least of which is exchange rates. Being a small business, we don’t have the reserves like the big guys to take bit hits in our earnings over and over due to massive fluctuations in exchange rates. We made the decision to stick with our smaller ticket brands, which have continued to sell steadily and allow us much more flexibility in absorbing increased exchange rates.

So all in all, we are now 100% focussed on Straitline Components and Gamut USA and bid farewell to Banshee Bikes and Industry. Both of which we still rate as the best products in their class and we wish both companies the best of luck, especially in the quest for a new distributor in Australia.

Pricing Changes

Nothing drastic here, the same prices you have been getting in stores for the past 6 months. But we just hadn’t updated the website with the latest pricing. You will find current pricing now on all product pages.

New Products:

These will be added to the new website, in the meantime we have RRP on our stem page and a link to the Straitline product pages. Find info below on these kick ass new stems which are in stores now!

Straitline Pinch Clamp Stems $165:

The new Straitline SSC stem is a perfect fusion of form and function. Combining stylisation more commonly seen on high-end sports cars, with the simplicity of traditional pinch clamp desings. The pinch clamp offers weight reduction and added clamping force. The stem has torsional rigidity, due to a combination of its extra wide boxy cross section and the use of high strength alloy steel fasteners, at a ridiculously low weight.

Inspired by Canadian DH Champion Drew Mitchell, the new Straitline direct mount stem is ultra short, ultra light, and ultra rigid. Utilizing a two piece design over multiple piece creates obvious stiffness and style.

New Web Server

Filed under: XXIV — Ken @ 5:49 pm

We have just migrated our web server to a state of the art facility in Sydney, Australia. We have been unhappy with our web sites performance for some time and have finally found a suitable company to properly host it. You should noticed a drammatic increase in the speed of the site, enjoy!

We are also busy working on a new website which a much leaner, meaner and concentrated site giving you what you want to see as quickly as possible. We are also incorporating a secure dealers area for live stock levels and online ordering.

So stay tuned!

Straitline Pedal Testing…with HEAVY Machinery!

Filed under: Upcoming Events, XXIV — Ken @ 7:21 pm

From the Strailtine Blog

The Crew! This is an exagerated test but it was fun to do! Below is our fatigue tester we use to calculate breaking and bend ing points of our axles and the bushing wear. But todays question is what will happen when we use totally unrealistic pressures and weights on our pedals? John Deere vs Straitline The excavator weighs 44,000 lbs and some change and the steam roller 12,000 lbs, Pressure applied by the bucket slam is beyond my math but the pedal took it like a champ. Everything we make we make simple and use the right material so that we never see a warranty! Bent but not broke or cracked. I don’t recomend doing this at home unless you have acess to heavy machinery then definitly do it. Just film it all for us. More pedal videos HERE
