2006 Giant STPs

Over the past couple of weeks alot of people including myself have been speculating what they think and what they have heard will be on the 2006 Giant STPs.

Here is a low-res rough spec sheet and shots of the Australian 2006 STPs including RRPs! Check it out below:

You see a 20mm front axle on the STP 1, minor downgrade on brakes (they are still hydro, don't knock 'em till you try 'em)improved hubs and fork. Pretty good deal.

The STP Zero is by far a winner though, Sram X7, Acid Juicy 5s, RockShox Pike SL's with U-Turn, SDG I-Beam post with an I-Sky saddle. Colour looks pretty alright as well. I have already decided to buy one. They arrive in the country in 3-4 weeks so i will post about it not too long after that. Stay tuned.

Brisbane Skatepark Jam/Comp

On Sunday the 9th of July there is going to be a large collective of local street / skate park riders and dirt jumpers descending upon Jindalee skate park. Starting at 10am riders will be riding, socialising and rocking along with a local band and a DJ playing in the annex. At 1pm a small competition will be run in the skate park for anyone who's up to it, with prizes for the winners. The overall objective of the day is to bring together all types of riders and try to create a platform to Promote and inspire street riding in Brisbane. Everyone is welcome and this is an entirely free event. The whole day has been put together by 2 local riders and supported by 'For The Riders' and 'Coping Clothing'. So far the prize pool consists of a brand new set of Maxxis tyres, T-shirts and Hoodies.

Jindalee skate park is located where Amazons used to be just off the centenary highway in Jindalee. Also for those who prefer their wheels airborne the skate park contains 3 various sized Dirt jump lines containing 2 four foot tables, 2 five foot doubles with a hefty lip on the second and a 12 foot gap, a set of rollers and a four and a half foot hip. Should be a fun day and It'll be great to see everyone there. A full write up with photo's and comp results will be up after the event.

On-One Gimp Mark 3 Review

It has been a while coming, with Uni and work writing on the site has taken a back seat unfortunately. But now i have finished Uni for the semester, hopefully i can get a bit more content up for you guys.

As most of you know i have been riding an On-One Gimp Mark 3 for a good couple of months now. For a quick review, let's just say i am buying a mark 4 version of this frame (has disc mounts), thats how good it was!

gimp-build.jpg

The geometry of the bike is great, it is basically BMX Geo with 26" wheels, so it is very small and short. Which gives for great control over it in the air.

The cromoly steel was amazing, you could really notice the difference when compared to aluminium. The cromoly is not as stiff as aluminium, so it gives a bit of flex which made landing alot smoother, well they feel smoother anyway. It was noticably heavier than aluminium, but you didnt notice really out on the trail.

Overall i thought the frame was really well made and designed, featured good placement of gussets and had extremely high quality welding. My only quarm with this frame was that it did not have rear disc mounts, only V-Brake mounts. But they have corrected this in the Mark 4 version.

I would highly recommend this frame, for a RRP of $749 it is great value too. They also come with a really good warranty, so you will be covered if you ever axe the frame (which you wont! it is steel baby!). You can also buy the complete demo bike (rigid forks, on-one wheels etc. - my parts featured in photo) for $1100. Email me if you are interested.

The gimp got 7.5/10 from me, and i will do another review when i get my MARK 4 built up with discs, it will be sure to score higher!
