Azonic Skid Lid

Azonic have just brought out a new dirt jump / skate helmet dubbed the “Skid Lid”. It is a very aggressively styled helmet, with sharp, curvacious almost evil lines. The styling and vent design looks almost like a supe’d up japanese sports car e.g. they look really cool but actually do bugger all.
The helmet looks very good on, especially styled as is. It doesn’t look like a lego helmet as alot of similar helmets tend to look like. Due to its design and curves it does not extend from the head too much, so is a very snug fit and also looks it which is definitely a move in the right direction for these style helmets which have been known to look excessively large.

The construction of the helmet is very solid. Consisting of a 2-3mm thick plastic shell, followed by 1.5 cm polystyrene with foam padding for comfort. It is supplied with 1 thick and 1 thin padding strip to get the fit slightly more customised to the size of your head (although, helmet sizes come in large and small sizes).

You will all be glad to know that this helmet is made to Australian Standards and has the sticker with all the ticks on the side of the box to prove it. To pass in Australian standards, the helmet must pass impact tests and also penetration tests (no not that kind!). The helmet must not let a sharp rod through the helmet at various points. So it is road safe and certified to prove it.

Overall, the helmet is styling it up and looks very mean. Ventilation is minimal, but not really an issue as it is intended for dirt jump use, not exactly high speed stuff. It also meets Australian standards which means it is gonna save your brain when push comes to shove. It is RRP $49.95 (AUD), so is really good value.
This review will be updated in a few weeks after i do some more extensive testing, and will update the review in regards to how it performs after extended use, the feel and ventilation etc.
