Check these bad boys out! Wallets made out of duct tape which look good to boot. Pete, a fellow Melbournian started making these for kicks but they have taken off for him for obvious reasons. The wallets are really tough, have all the usual features and look really cool, especially as you can have him customise your own wallet with different colours and designs. These have been getting some very decent workouts from skaters and BMXers with rave reviews and long lifespan under extreme conditions, so they should survive the equally ruthless MTB regime without any problems.

God only knows how this man does what he does with duct tape, it is a true mystery to me how he can call a sticky strip primarily used in horror films to create a wallet, but they are damn fine. They are affordable too, ranging from between $30-$60. If you want to find out more details you can contact Pete at chuckysun@gmail.com.
Obese Records’ have recently released JASE Connection, a compilation of Australian MCs doing their thing over the top of the renowned JASE’s beats. This is a great album; a snapshot of who is who in the Aussie Hip Hop scene at the moment. The artists are from all over Australia and from various record labels making this the definitive album to have, especially for people just getting into Aussie Hip Hop.

Jase started making beats back in 1994 and since then he has formed one third of the world famous electronic act Nubreed. Jase has honed his craft on well over 50 official releases and mixes it with the best of them in all styles. He has put over 200 of his own beats into this album with most of them being customised to suit every individual MC’s style. The tracks are great, each one has its own individual style emphasised by the different MCs. My personal favourites have to be Evolution feat. Equills and The Wash feat. Urthboy both have some really phat bass lines, smooth beats and some really tight rhymes thrown down by the MCs.

As for the MCs, there are just too many to mention and truly do justice to all of them and their different styles. So make sure you check out the attached PDFs to check them all out. This album really is a must have if you haven’t heard many Aussie MC’s, a great sample of the best going around.

For a first event, the podium of the Dobermann dirt jam was impressive!

Kyle Ebbett (Scott USA) took the first place, Jim Dechamp (Mongoose) second, and Joe Prisel (Union street bike) third.

But the most impressive was the level of riding we had all day. From EXPERT winner Michel Plonka throwing nice tail whips to Elliot Jarry-Bolduc (second place EXPERT) using the course in ways that we were not expecting! The fight for the top 3 PRO position was one hell of a war! Dechamp was on fire all day going big and clean with back flips one foot, back flips transfer, front flips ect, Prisel's riding with his legendary focus and determination did some super clean and huge runs. We also had some amazing riding from riders out of Yasmouth MA, Clinton McMahon and Rocco Quintiliani, also Nick Soloninka coming all the way from North Carolina, not to forget Sal Wood from Union street bikes who showed some nice transfers and some impressive tail whips going up on the scaffold. At the end of the day Ebbett took the first place with his incredible back flip on the scaffold, WHAT A SHOW!

Typical small event way, the day started with the riders completely redesigning the course and ended in one of the wildest party of all time.

The 2 double jumps that we had were completely soaked by the rain so all the riders took a shovel and transformed the course into what they wanted, a nice big double and a step up on a 8.5 foot scaffold. The riders and crowd had fun all day and after the comp it was time to open up the Dobermann BREW kegs, specially brewed by Mathieu and Alain for the event.

Our friends from 9volts and Drinkers Peace fired up the crowd with some super loud punk rock alternative sound. Before the third band started their set, we were out of beer?! To the rescue two PRO riders (which names will remain secret) saved the night by using there winnings to buy 300$ of beer for everyone. The stage was now set for the ultimate hardcore rock band, Maximum RNR, to show us what they do the best, ROCK THE PLACE!!!!! Suddenly, the Dobermann machine shop turned in to a wild trash pit! Incredible! After the show, we managed to close the shop and the party ended at 5 or 6 am at one of the band's house. It was a long day and a long night but is was fun!

We are looking forward to doing it again next year.

Mathieu and Alain would like to thank all our friends and family who helped us during the event and we also want to thanks all the riders for coming... BIG THANKS EVERY ONE!!!!!!

Thanks to JP Allard for the great pics.

Cheers!

Well it has been a week since the event but i am still hearing great things about the 4X meet organised by SMBP and held at Park Orchards BMX track. The event was the first 4X race held within Melbourne and it let no one down.

There was doubt about how the event would go when running it at a BMX track, but i think the only thing riders really complained about was their lack of fitness. The track was in superb condition and had been shortened for the 4X race. It also had alot going for it that you don't usually find at a 4X race including a gas operated starting gate which put everyone's gate starts to the test.

The event was ran extremely well under the supervision of the Park Orchards BMX Club and SMBP. There was a full canteen to keep everyone fed, no one had to wait to long as the motos were organised very well. There was also full mechanical support at no charge thanks to BikeNow and we also showed off a bunch of our products there.

Everyone who raced had a great time, but especially the winners who walked away with some great prizes such as Spy Goggles, Fox Racing Kits, Focused DVDs and much more. We also gave away 2 spot prizes which were 2 Gamut chain devices no less (bet you kicking yourself you didn't enter now!).

As you should all know Hilltop Hoods have recently released their latest album The Hard Road. This is their 4th album after being together for over a decade now. Their last album The Calling had phenomenal success especially with the hit Nosebleed Section. Since 2003 I have played that album to death and I am sure that I am not the only one who did so. The Hard Road has been an eagerly awaited album and it definitely hasn't let anyone down; A true collection of Australian Hip Hop classics.

The Hard Road is a vast collection of songs from the thought provoking Stopping All Stations, through the chilled out flows of Conversations From A Speakeasy to the party anthem that is (you already know all the words to it) The Clown Prince.

You can't help but to smile when you hear the Hilltop Hoods intelligent rhymes pumping through your speakers. They always produce songs which are packed with extremely clever lines that at first make you smile, laugh and think all in a short space of time. Which is something really special in a hip hop band, there are a lot of outfits around that have some good lines but none that have quite the same impact as a Hilltop Hoods song. I guess being around the traps for over 10 years has really polished up their style, combined with some really top notch producing really brings the lyrics to the forefront which in essence is the most defining part of this style of music.

Dj Debris is as good as ever providing some high quality back beats. He definitely has mastered his art with the use of some really clever effects, mixes and most importantly can work wonders with any track regardless of tempo. Although credits for this album's beats also have to go out to Suffa who played a big role producing them all. Trials and Simplex also contributed to the vast pool of beats that is The Hard Road.

This again is one of the finer releases from Obese Records. Make sure to head down to your local music store and grab yourself a copy...you won't regret it!

Above: Jay whipping in the new 6 pack

It has begun! Along with Stonnington City Council, team XXIV have started work on Windsor Siding. Eric Frenchy was the mastermind of this brainchild; coming up with a masterful design which will feature 2 six packs, 1 big 4 pack and a set of 3 table tops.

This Friday gone (21st of April) we built one 6 pack and the big 4 pack. It was a solid days work from everyone who helped out: Eric, John, Cyril, Taz, Ryan, and last but not least Bruce from the Stonnington City Council doing an awesome job in the Bob Cat. We also have to thank the Stonnington Council for letting it all go ahead and especially Peter who is in charge of parks and gardens who met with us and lined up the us of the Bob Cat and the initial grading of the site.

The jumps themselves are looking fantastic, nice and wide with good distance and height on all. We wanted to make everything much more trickable and forgiving with the addition of the bigger 4 pack for those more adventerous who want to bust out the big moves with bigger air time.

Hopefully phase 2 should happen in the coming weeks and we will get the addition 6 pack and tabletops put in, maybe something else if we have the dirt available.

Make sure you read more in the article for all the photos and a video.

See you down there!

The New World Disorder series never ceases to entertain. Number 6 in the series is more action packed than any of its predecessors. It seems that Freeride Entertainment and resorted back to their roots, "Freeriding". Whether that be hucking off cliffs, descending the mountains of South America, slope-styles, jump parks or urban riding. The main thing to be noted is that you will not find any racing at all in NWD 6. Which is a good thing, now that we have several film series out there focusing on DH & 4X racing there is no need to use it in a "freeride" film apart from a content filler.

The riders featured are the usual gang including: Paul Basagotia, Darren Berrecloth, Robbie Bourdon, Aaron Chase, John Cowan, Carlin Dunne, Wayne Goss, Cedric Gracia, Geoff Gulevich, Jeff Lenosky, Cam McCaul, Timo Pritzel, Richie Schley, Wade Simmons, Kyle Strait, Thomas Vanderam, Kirt Voreeis, Dave Watson & Cameron Zink.

Almost all rider segments were great; either providing huge airs and drops or amazing skill and stricks, or a bit of both. The only segment that failed to impress me was the Gulevich/Brooks/Gatzka/ segment. I just get the impression that it is a bit of a token segment for RaceFace as the riders are the finalists from their competition. None the less; their riding is good and they defiinitly hit some big stuff, but it didn't blow me away like the rest of the segments.

My favourite section would have had to be (need you guess?) Aaron Chase and Jeff Lenosky throwing down some extremely stylin' street. To a very solid song indeed, which leads me to the music. The music in the NWD series is always of an extremely good quality, NWD 6 is no exception. A solid mix of old and new, slow and hard, rock and hip hop. The following is a list of the songs and some links to their sites in case you want to check out the
actual artists.

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction
Dio - Holy Diver
Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon - www.vonbondies.com
Z-Trip - Bury me Standing - www.djztrip.com
Sweatshop Union - Cut Back - www.sweatshopunion.com
Jane's Addiction - Stop
Tru-Paz - Rude Boy - www.tru-paz.com
Anthrax/Public Enemy - Bring the Noise
Swollen Members - Too Hot - www.swollenmembers.com
Sweatshop Union - Try
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild - www.skidrow.com
Burlap - Easy Ride - www.visionaryrecords.com

Cinematography wise the film is very good. The execution of filming was of an extremely high quality with great camera work as we expect from a high quality film such as NWD. Editing was also very good, extremely good in some segments but it was not consistent through the whole film at this level (eg. Lenosky, Gracia segments).

Overall i enjoyed the film immensely, quality riding, editing and music. I think it would have been nice to trim out some segments as they didn't really do much for the film overall, for that i can't rate the film as highly as i would like to. But it still gets a deservedly 4/5 stars from me.

A must have for your MTB DVD collection!
