Hilltop Hoods - The Hard Road
As you should all know Hilltop Hoods have recently released their latest album The Hard Road. This is their 4th album after being together for over a decade now. Their last album The Calling had phenomenal success especially with the hit Nosebleed Section. Since 2003 I have played that album to death and I am sure that I am not the only one who did so. The Hard Road has been an eagerly awaited album and it definitely hasn’t let anyone down; A true collection of Australian Hip Hop classics.
The Hard Road is a vast collection of songs from the thought provoking Stopping All Stations, through the chilled out flows of Conversations From A Speakeasy to the party anthem that is (you already know all the words to it) The Clown Prince.
You can’t help but to smile when you hear the Hilltop Hoods intelligent rhymes pumping through your speakers. They always produce songs which are packed with extremely clever lines that at first make you smile, laugh and think all in a short space of time. Which is something really special in a hip hop band, there are a lot of outfits around that have some good lines but none that have quite the same impact as a Hilltop Hoods song. I guess being around the traps for over 10 years has really polished up their style, combined with some really top notch producing really brings the lyrics to the forefront which in essence is the most defining part of this style of music.
Dj Debris is as good as ever providing some high quality back beats. He definitely has mastered his art with the use of some really clever effects, mixes and most importantly can work wonders with any track regardless of tempo. Although credits for this album’s beats also have to go out to Suffa who played a big role producing them all. Trials and Simplex also contributed to the vast pool of beats that is The Hard Road.
This again is one of the finer releases from Obese Records. Make sure to head down to your local music store and grab yourself a copy…you won’t regret it!
